Nail Haul (again) + Marc Jacobs Doggy Nail Art

By Kristine Lam - July 23, 2013

You can never have too many nail polishes. Ever. I bought my first ever red polish in my life yesterday. I really don't have a strong liking for red polishes so I never found the need to buy a bottle, even when it is a pretty essential color. I got the urge to grab one when I saw a really cute set of nail art on tumblr:

These are probably done with gel but can be easily recreated with polish so I also grabbed a bottle of blue polish (I don't have that either!). The NYC bright blue polish was only 97 cents so why not right?! I got it at the Walmart in the states during a grocery trip down there a few days ago. While I was there, I also grabbed a bottle of Essie's "bikini so teeny" which is yet because of another tumblr photo:

Now this set is TOO CUTE - just look at the thumb. The doggy is the same as these flats from the store. I fell in love with the color and the Essie shade came really close.

The Zoya polish was from an Ipsy bag a few months back - can't remember which but I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. It's a nice shade that will go well with the baby blue essie polish. I really can't get over how pretty this shade of blue is! I was trying to find a dupe but there wasn't any that came close :( .. although Essie polishes are cheaper in the states, they're still a tad pricey at around $8.00 for a bottle.

Onto the reds! The Nailtini coral red polish was from this month's Ipsy bag. It's a wonderful color for the summer but I'm still a bit meh on reds. I wanted a true red for drawing heart and flower nail art so I grabbed the Revlon polish in Revlon Red (doh!)

I've been having issues with Essie's good to go top coat. It dries really quickly and gives a nice gloss finish but it seems to change the color of the polishes I use :( I saw great reviews on Sally Hansen's insta-dry top coat so I grabbed that to try out. It's a lot cheaper than Essie's top coats priced around $10+. The Sally Hansen top coat was only around $6.00.

I tried it out today with my new manicure and it dries just as fast as Essie - maybe even a bit faster. It also has a nice glossy finish. Need to wait a few days to see if it will affect the nail color but fingers crossed that it won't!

I attempted to recreate the cute dog nail art on my thumb but man it was HARD. I'm not that great at free-hand nail art even with my dominant hand. Here's what I ended up with:

CLSOE ENOUGH. Maybe. It looks 10 times better from far away hahahaha ;____;

Polishes used were:
1. Essie's grow faster base coat
2. Essie's Bikini So Teeny
3. Zoya Jacqueline
4. Etude House Glitter Polish (Don't have the color for it sorry!)
5. Shisem Korean Polish (Black)
6. Daiso Striper Polish (White)
7. Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Top Coat

Pic spam!

I'm going to be super jam packed with my last 2 intensive courses over the next 3 weeks so posts may be sparse again. Apologies in advance but I will try post as often as I can <3
